Chocolate french toast recipe
For the torrijas:
- 1 loaf of bread from the day before
- 100g sugar
- 1 liter of milk
- 250 ml of cream (optional)
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 4 eggs
- Mild olive oil
- 100 g of whole or icing sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Steps to make chocolate french toast recipe:
To start preparing this recipe for French toast with chocolate, you have to cut the bread into slices about a centimeter wide, that is to say, small in size so that we get more amount of French toast and at the same time they are not too cloying portions.
Meanwhile, we heat the milk together with the cream, in case we decide to add cream to it. Once we have heated these two ingredients, we add the sugar and two tablespoons of cocoa powder to make the chocolate base. Another option is that you use chocolate to melt or to the cup so that, once the torrijas are made, you pour the melted chocolate on top. Thus, according to your tastes and those of your guests, you can choose to make white, milk or dark chocolate toast.
When we have all these ingredients together (milk, cream and cocoa powder, the latter two being optional, depending on whether you want to use cream or not and depending on what type of chocolate you want to use) it is necessary to stir them well, in order to eliminate all the lumps and so that they are completely softened. When they are well integrated, turn off the heat and let it cool down to room temperature, not in the fridge.
Then, when the mixture has cooled, you have to soak the bread with it and pass it through the beaten eggs to better fry the torrijas. The egg makes them more soaked and soaks up the oil better and thus they are well done.
To fry the torrijas, the oil must be very hot, otherwise, they would not be done well. There is no exact frying time, we must control them so that they do not burn and remove them when we consider that they are well fried.
There is little left to finish this delicious recipe for chocolate torrijas. Now, once fried, drain the torrijas well. To do this, we put them on absorbent kitchen paper, which will help remove all the excess oil and, thus, they will not be too oily.
